Learning Objectives
- Students name six farm animals: cow, pig, duck, sheep, horse, chicken.
- Students mimic animal sounds (moo, oink, quack, baa, neigh, cluck) with matching gestures.
- Students participate in Animal Parade with headbands β "I am a duck! Quack quack!"
- Students respond to "The cow says ___" imitation prompts with sound or word.
- Students hear and respond to /m/ (moo) and /d/ (duck) with animal picture cards and full animal TPR.
Warm-up: Meeting Up & Warming Up (10 mins)
Purpose: Channel farm-animal excitement into safe circle routines, then build sound-and-gesture fluency before the Animal Parade.

Purpose: Psychological safety, predictable arrival, preview today's farm animal theme.

If a child makes loud animal sounds during Meeting Up, hold Listen card: "Save your moo for later. Listen first β then big moo!"
If a child says "Dog!" instead of farm animals, redirect: "Dogs are friends too! Today β farm β cow! Moo!"
If a child grabs a headband early, gentle hand: "Headbands wait in the barn basket. Sit on your spot first."
- Door greeting: Hello to each child + invite to circle spot.
- Look Β· Listen Β· Sit with cards β 3-second settle wait.
- Flash six animal cards quickly β "Today these animals visit our circle!"
- Name each animal once with picture β cow, pig, duck, sheep, horse, chicken (β1 min).
- Preview parade path with finger β "We walk this line later β walking feet!"
- Quick hello review from Lesson 02 β wave and say Hello to the person beside you (β30 sec).
- Feeling check: "How are you on the farm? I'm happy!" β thumbs up before animal sounds (β30 sec).
Step 2 Β· Warming Up (β5 min)
Purpose: Energy + review link to prior lessons plus Old MacDonald sound chorus.

If one child dominates with loud sounds, assign turn-taking: "This side moos β that side oinks." Split volume across the circle.
If a child makes a nonsense sound ("Bzz!"), redirect: "Fun bug! Our farm sound β moo! Copy cow horns β moo!"
If children stand during sound warm-up, point to Sit card: "Sit β sound β gesture. All three together."
- Hello + How are you? β whole group (β1 min).
- Look Β· Listen Β· Sit drill β 2 rounds (β1 min).
- Old MacDonald chorus: cow, pig, duck, sheep β sound + gesture Γ 1 pass each (β2 min).
- Animal sound chain: teacher names animal, class responds with sound Γ full set of six (β1 min).
- Quick review: hold two animal cards β "Which says moo? Which says quack?" β point only (β30 sec).
- Transition: "You know the sounds β now wear the animals! Animal Parade!"
Main Activity: Animal Parade & /m/ /d/ Phonics (15 mins)
Teacher Note: Sound + motion together β K1 learns animals through the body first. Accept animal sounds as valid answers before clear word production. Return to circle for phonics and Calming Down.
Review: Use hello/goodbye from Lesson 02 and Look Β· Listen Β· Sit from Lesson 01 at every transition during this lesson.
Step 3 Β· Opening Up (β8 min)
Purpose: MAIN theme activity β Animal Parade with headbands: line up, parade, introduce self as animal.

"When I stop you, say: I am a duck! Quack quack!" (model with duck headband)

If a child says "Cat!" for The cow says, smile: "Cats say meow β cows say moo! The cow says moo!"
If parade introduction is only a sound (no "I am aβ¦"), accept then extend: "Great moo! Now full sentence β I am a cow! Moo!"
If headbands slip over eyes, fix calmly: "Headband on forehead β like a crown. Can you see? Good β parade!"
If a child refuses to swap headbands in Round 2, offer choice: "Keep cow or try duck β you pick. Both are brave farm animals."
- Teacher models parade with one headband β full lap + "I am a duck! Quack!" (β1 min).
- Round 1: half class parades with cow/pig/duck headbands (β2 min).
- Round 2: swap headbands β sheep/horse/chicken (β2 min).
- Round 3: optional fast group parade β all sounds chorus (β2 min).
- Seated children echo each parade stop: "I am a cow! Moo!" β builds audience participation (β30 sec).
- Headbands off, collected in basket β "Parade finished! Sit on your spot."
Step 4 Β· Cheering Up (β7 min)
Purpose: Phonics /m/ moo (cow) and /d/ duck β animal picture cards + full animal TPR + peer cheer.

If TPR becomes running around, reset: "Sit β horns β moo. Sit β wings β quack. In your spot."
If a child won't do partner cheer, teacher pairs with child: "You are my cow β moo! I am duck β quack!"
If /m/ has no voice (just breath), hand on throat: "Feel the buzz β mmm β moo!"
- Show cow card β model /m/ Γ 3, cow horn TPR Γ 3.
- Show duck card β model /d/ Γ 3, duck wing flap Γ 3.
- Alternating drill: teacher holds cow or duck card β class responds with sound + full animal TPR.
- Partner cheer: 30 seconds each side β cow moo / duck quack exchange.
- Whole-group check: cow card β mmm + horns; duck card β duh + wing flap.
Wrap-up: Calming Down (5 mins)
Purpose: Put animals "to sleep" in the barn basket, lower energy, affirm parade participation, dismiss with Goodbye Song.
Step 5 Β· Calming Down (β5 min)
Purpose: Breathing, compliment, goodbye song, dismissal.

If line-up becomes a stampede, pause song: "Walking feet β same line as yesterday β you can do it."
If a child is sad to remove headband, validate: "Duck goes in the barn to sleep. You can be duck again next time!"

- Compliments + stickers β name 2β3 specific parade moments (β1 min).
- Goodbye Song with farm farewell verse (β2 min).
- Line up in table order β high-five exit ritual (β1 min).
